1 Peter 3:8-12 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. (9) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (10) For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. (11) They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. (12) For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Generous attitude of love.
(8) Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.

Gentle response rather than retaliation.
(9) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Genuine motivation to do the right thing.

“The Bible tells me so”.
Word of God is infallible and complete.
Proverbs 30:5-6 “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. (6) Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.

Word of God is totally authoritative.
Psalms 119:89 Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

Word of God is completely sufficient.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, (17) so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Word of God will accomplish what it promises.
Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

God’s eyes are watching over you.
2 Chronicles 16:9a For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

God is in control
I Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

As followers and believers of Christ, we are called unto this inheritance of blessing. And it is because of God’s blessings, we bless others in the same manner – love, forgiveness, service, mercy, humility, and compassion without retaliation.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We are not the church of the faultless…
We are the church of the forgiven.
